St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry is located in Newark, NJ, serving the homeless and working poor. The soup kitchen is open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday 12-2pm. The Food Pantry is open every Friday. The food service is always looking for volunteers willing to serve at the soup kitchen.

In order to put a dent in the food pantry needs, St. Mary’s runs a “themed” food drive on the 2nd weekend of each month, collected at Fr. Brian’s 9am Children’s Liturgy Mass. Religious education students may also drop off food in the collection baskets in the narthex during that same week when they come to religious education classes.

Food Bank of Somerset County
Contacts: Marge Kugelman 908-756-1008 or Mary Cooper 908-561-0859
The Food Bank Network of Somerset County distributes packages of food to 2,200 individuals monthly. Recipients are usually low income, working families who cannot always meet the high cost of living in this area. Canned and other non-perishable goods are collected on the 3rd weekend of the month in a bin located in the narthex.

SHIP
Contacts: Jeff or Bernadette Bonner 908-822-1002
Samaritan Homeless Interim Program or SHIP is a Somerville based program that provides homeless with warm meals. The meals have been served by SHIP at local shelters and from SHIP’s mobile soup kitchen.

During the last weekend of the month (it can be either the fourth weekend or fifth weekend, depending on how many weeks there are in a month), empty serving trays and recipes are available in St. Mary’s narthex for parishioners to pick up. Parishioners prepare the recipe, freeze it and return the frozen casserole the following weekend (the first weekend of the next month).
