ST. MARY’S CHILDREN’S LITURGY
The Children’s Liturgy program helps children ages 5-13 understand the Gospel messages.  The program is held during the Sunday 9am Mass, whenever there are religious education classes.  During the readings and homily the children are brought to Fr. Platt Hall where the Gospel message for that Sunday is explained to them in age-appropriate terms.  No registration is necessary – just come to Mass.

We welcome volunteers to help present the Gospel messages.  You can present one or more Sundays throughout the year.  We will provide the readings and an interpretation of the Gospel for that day, or you can search out your own interpretation using several internet links we will provide.

GREETINGS FROM THE OFFICE OF THE DIOCONATE From Deacon Sam Costantino, Director for the Office of the Diaconate for the Diocese of Metuchen Question # 2     So are you saying that the deacon is a kind of priest? No, not at all.  Catholics are very familiar with the role of the priest in their communities, but for many people, deacons are still rather new.  Since deacons are members of the clergy, they have responsibilities very similar to priests in some ways: they participate in a unique way in the Mass, they are official teachers and preachers to the Gospel, and they preside at celebrations of baptism, matrimony, funerals and other forms of community prayer.

THE CATHOLIC SPIRIT The Catholic Spirit is now available, in it’s entirely, online.  Our electronic edition lets you read the Catholic Spirit exactly as it appears in print – every article, photograph and advertisement – using your web browser at home, work or anywhere there is an internet connection.  The issue is searchable and the pages are downloadable so you can take the Catholic Spirit with you on your laptop.  Each week’s issue is available Thursdays at noon.  Visit: www.catholicspirit.com and click on Electronic Edition.

FOSTERING AWARENESS FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS:  A Symposium will be held at St. John Neumann Pastoral Center to foster awareness for people with special needs on Saturday, March 13, from 9-3pm.  Parents, teachers, catechists, advocates, care givers and those with special needs are invited to attend for a $10 fee, includes lunch and 2 workshops.  Day will close with the keynote by world famous musician Tony Melendez who performed for John Paul II, and prayer led by Bishop Bootkoski.  For more information: www.diometuchen.org or call Pat @ 732-562-1990 x 1310.  The Symposium is sponsored by the diocesan Offices for Catechesis and Respect for Life.

2009 BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL -Telephone Campaign In an effort to secure the funding which is critical to sustaining our pastoral, educational and charitable ministries, the Diocese of Metuchen is embarking on a telephone campaign for the 2009 Bishop’s Annual.  Calls will be made from March 1-25 (excluding Sundays) to those who have not yet made a gift to the appeal.  Note that callers will not ask for your credit card info.  Callers have been instructed to honor the National Do Not Call list even though as a religious institution we are exempt.  Any questions and concerns can be directed to Very Rev. Sylvester Cronin, Executive Director, Stewardship & Development by phone at 732-562-2431 or by e-mail scronin@diometuchen.org
